| My understanding is that much of the kernal of the spark is underutilized being buried in the head. Search on NA plugs and look for dyno results where NA [shorter] plugs were used and then were changed out for longer [correct] TT plugs. The results you seek are out there and difference is pretty large, esp at higher boost levels. Its obvious from looking at the head the engineers of the car wanted the plug to stick out into the middle or the combustion chamber. With that said some are trying (ash for example) to eliminate the part of the head that allows the plug to stick out. In an attempt to expirment with being able to properly utilize shorter plugs. See HERE for an example. There is talk of additional timing advance that might be necessary with such an implemention because the wavefront of combustion or whatever its called will begin further from the piston. Who knows - but (again FWIW) when my heads were totally gone over and we discussed eliminating the spark plug lip, I decided to have it smoothed out a little bit but NOT elimiated as I want the spark to come from the middle of the combustion chamber not the far top, as it is of my opinion this is WAY too critical a part to be going against the engineers on. If you are looking to improve your spark I used to hear good things about the splitfire coil packs. I haven't heard much about those in a while though...hmm.
